I change out of my wet clothes, and head straight back into my office. It’s time to deal with this Nichollette shit once and for all. Because until Lilliana knows that the girl is alive and well, she’s going to forever be at war with me. God, the look she gave me cut right to the core. The hatred was burning deep.

I pull up Nichollette’s hiring documents on my computer and scroll down to the employer signature line. And there it states: “Darius Caprizio” as the man who hired her. My brother? The fuck?

I’m out of my seat and charging down to the basement. When I enter the room, Darius is leaning against the wall with his nose deep into his phone, while Nichollette sits on the chair watching him. At least she’s no longer visibly shaking. Darius can be terrifying when he’s angry. He’s a man no one wants to cross. But until he gets to that point, he’s definitely not as intimidating as Anthony.

I pull him from the room so we can have this conversation in private. I know the truth, but I go ahead and ask the question anyway. “Did you hire that girl?”

Darius gives me a what-the-fuck look, and turns his head back toward the door we just exited. “Her? No. Today was the first time I’ve ever seen her.”

Yep. I knew that to be the case. For the last three weeks, Darius has been guarding my girl over at the Magniatti compound because he’s one of the few men I’d trust with my girl’s life. Since the date on the hiring docs was from a week ago, I knew it wasn’t him.

“Hiring docs have your name on them,” I state.

“The fuck?” he practically shouts. “What the hell are you talking about? You know I’m not lying about this, Dominik. You know…”

“Stop, brother.” I shake my head. “You don’t have to prove anything. I know you didn’t do it. But someone is trying to pass this shit off onto you.” I crack my jaw at the thought. No one fucks with me or my family.

“Now, my question is, do I have a coward under my nose who knows he’s about to get his ass kicked for not making the rules of my authority known to the girl and now he’s trying to pin this shit on you to hide from the consequences? Or do we have a fucking rat in the house and somehow what happened last night with that girl has to do with the fucker in the woods?”

I’m seething at the thought of a snake under my roof, especially now that my darling Lilly is here. It’s time to get to the bottom of this. “Let’s see what the girl knows and go from there.”

Darius nods and we both reenter the room. I look over at Nichollette who’s looking right over my shoulder at my brother. Based on her body language, it looks like she’s relieved he’s returned. “Who hired you?” I ask, the edge in my tone evident.
